In summer of 2020, Routledge invited project director, Dr. Donald Opitz, and co-general editor, Banu Subramaniam to edit the series. Beginning as a series devoted to spotlighting women in science in the 19th century, this project evolved to engage cross-cultural perspectives, indigenous, colonized, and postcolonial voices, and those whose gender identities are transgender, non-binary, and/or queer.
